Ptuj: Uroš Potočnik: 0.73 J/s, Exhibition
Ptuj City Gallery
19 May–5 July 2026
Uroš Potočnik’s exhibition 0.73 J/s presents a selection of works created in recent years alongside several earlier pieces that have rarely been shown to the public. The exhibition unfolds across five thematic sections, offering insight into the breadth and diversity of the artist’s creative practice. Visitors will encounter figurative paintings, interiors defined by striking light and atmosphere, realistic observations, utopian visions, abstract compositions and two site-specific installations. Among the recurring motifs are scenes from mixed martial arts, verandas and domestic interiors, “advertising impressions”, nuclear explosions and views of castle ruins.
The exhibition’s title references the Kardashev Scale, a theoretical framework that measures the level of a civilisation according to the amount of energy it can harness and utilise. Humanity is currently estimated to stand at approximately Level 0.73, on the threshold of becoming a Type I civilisation capable of harnessing the energy resources of an entire planet. Yet this transition is not merely a technological milestone. It is, above all, a social challenge that raises fundamental questions about cooperation, responsibility and the future direction of humanity.
