Kostanjevica na Krki: Beyond the Academy (Onkraj akademije): Bosilj, Sekulić, Skurjeni, Tisnikar, Exhibition

Beyond the Academy brings together the work of four remarkable painters of the second half of the twentieth century: Ilija Bašičević Bosilj, Sava Sekulić, Matija Skurjeni and Jože Tisnikar. Their artistic visions rank among the most significant achievements of self-taught art in the wider region. The exhibition offers a fresh perspective on their artistic legacies: from fantastical inner landscapes and visionary narratives to intimate, often darker universes imbued with poetic mystery, the works on display challenge conventional interpretations and invite deeper reflection. Together, they reveal the extraordinary creative freedom and artistic authenticity that transcend academic conventions. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art in Jagodina (Serbia), the Matija Skurjeni Museum in Zaprešić (Croatia), the Carinthian Gallery of Fine Arts in Slovenj Gradec (Slovenia), and the private Zander Collection in Cologne (Germany).
