The 1st Wine & Culinary Afternoon at Žička Kartuzija Monastery
In the embrace of Žička Kartuzija Monastery, experience a wine & culinary afternoon featuring tastings of local wines and dishes inspired by the Carthusian tradition. Join us on 14 June 2025 in the small cloister, where past meets present.
In the year that Slovenske Konjice celebrates the 860th anniversary of the Carthusians’ arrival at Žiče Charterhouse, we invite you to the premiere event, Charterhouse & Wine (Kartuzija & vino).
This unique event will, for the first time, combine historical tradition, wine heritage, and culinary experiences in the heart of one of Slovenia’s most precious cultural monuments.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, between 12 PM and 6 PM, in the small cloister of Žiče Charterhouse.
Why the Carthusians and Wine?
Already in the 12th century, the Carthusians were excellent winemakers who brought with them from France the knowledge of producing Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, and Chardonnay – varieties that still characterize the wine landscape of our region today. The “Kartuzija & Vino” event is a tribute to this heritage and to the modern winemakers of the Rogla–Pohorje destination, who continue their story with the same dedication.

Culinary Accompaniment:
The culinary delights will be provided by the oldest continuously operating inn in Slovenia – Gostilna Gastuž, 1467, which will offer dishes inspired by Carthusian cuisine.
The event will feature uniform stalls, tasting glasses, and a token system:
- Tasting Package (€19) includes:
- Commemorative glass with pouch
- 1 food token
- 1 drink token
- Additional tokens:
- €3 for a wine sample
- €8 for a food portion
Tokens and packages can be purchased at two info points:
- Before the entrance to the Charterhouse (along the white path)
- Before the entrance to the small cloister (through the church)
PLEASE NOTE: Payment will be possible only with cash – there is no card terminal coverage at Žiče Charterhouse.
Activities and Additional Offerings:
- Refectory under the arches with a communal table and standing tables
- Washing station for rinsing glasses and fresh drinking water from the Carthusian spring
- Special experience: sparkling wine tasting in Otakar’s Cellar
Schedule:
- 12:00 PM Official opening with Matija Plevnik and presentation of winemakers and cuisine
- 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM Presentation of the renovation of the Church of St. John the Baptist (lifting of the movable roof)
- 2:00 PM & 4:00 PM Sparkling wine tasting in Otakar’s Cellar
- 6:00 PM Conclusion of the gathering
