Belokranjska šara z žitno klobaso (kohlrabi thick hot pot) with cereal sausage

An authentic taste of the countryside can be tasted in stews that are particularly pleasing on winter days. “Belokranjska šara”, a typical winter stew, consists of turnip cabbage, carrots, beans, potatoes, roasted bacon and sometimes a millet sausage.

The slaughter has always been regarded as an important event during winter. A part of this tradition is the preparation of sausages, which has been considered as the prudent preservation of meat. The “jaglača” or “mastenica” is a speciality in the culinary offer of Bela krajina. It is a tasty smoked sausage, filled with millet porridge and made from quality pork.
