Ravne na Koroškem

Ravne na Koroškem: Through the ironwork towns with noble roots

From steel to the stories of the writer Prežihov Voranc, from the period of the medieval Guštanj Square to the interesting museum collections in Ravne Castle, the Mežica Valley is dotted with experiences connected to the counts. On our way, we are accompanied by the Thurn Valsassina family, which owned many Carinthian properties, industrial plants and the ironworks from the early 17th century onwards. We will visit the Mother Factory Museum, explore the Forma Viva steel sculptures, climb up to Ravne Castle and the castle park. After a traditional Carinthian lunch, we will also visit Prežihovina – the Lovro Kuhar – Prežihov Voranc Memorial Museum – with a characteristic cottage on the sunny bank above Kotlje.

The experience includes:

  • Visit to the Museum of Ironworks (Štauharija) dedicated to the Mother Factory – Ravne Ironworks
  • Guided tour of the town of Ravne na Koroškem with a visit to the Forma Viva steel sculptures and the medieval Guštanj Square
  • Tour of Ravne Castle (Streiteben) and the Dr. Franc Sušnik Koroška Central Library with ethnographic material
  • Lunch at a traditional Carinthian inn in the heart of the town
  • Visit to Prežihovina in Preški vrh above Kotlje, including the museum and the bronze monument of Lovro Kuhar – Prežihov Voranc
